So youve started college huh? As excited as you may be, have you considered the possibility of gaining a lot of weight that first year. What is commonly referred to as the freshman fifteen can easily become the freshman twenty or thirty if you are not careful. Read this article to learn how you can keep eating a healthy diet no matter how bad your college dorm food is.

Always plan time to study and keep a set schedule for doing so. After you have received your class schedule, it is best to schedule your study time. With a class and study schedule mapped out, you can create the kind structure that will help you get through each day and maximize your time.

Take advantage of activities and facilities available on your colleges campus. Many campuses offer a variety of free and inexpensive events for students, from concerts to movie showings. They also have fitness centers, pools, and other recreational facilities. You can also join clubs or groups centered around your hobbies, religion, and more.

The environment that you study in has a huge impact on the quality of your studies. It is generally not ideal to study in a dorm room. Find a place to study that is quiet. Your school library is ideal for this use. Get some noise-cancelling headphones if you need to.

Visit the dorm before deciding to live there. You may discover that you dont want to live in that environment. Not only that, but you may find that you prefer one dorm over the other. Make sure you will get the choice you signed up for, and make sure you have a contingency plan in place if you chose a single room but end up in a quad.

Sleep! Do not let your social life keep you from getting the sleep you need, and avoid spending entire nights on your homework. If you arent getting enough sleep, then your mind will not function the way it should be, which can negatively impact your grades.

Exercise

Try to get up somewhat early every day. Rising at 7 AM, or so will give you ample time for waking up, having breakfast and some additional study time. It is good to have a relaxed morning routine before classes each day.

If you are in class and find yourself bored out of your mind, do yourself a favor and stay until it ends. Often times college kids exercise their right to leave whenever they want but you never know when you will miss some truly important information. So make sure to attend every class in its entirety.

Get serious about exercise. Exercise is something that many students dont get enough of. Because weight gain is so normal in college freshmen especially, you have to make the time to get a small workout in so you can stay slim and fit. Think about jogging or using the campus pool to do your workouts.

Nutrition

Every freshman should understand and realize that the freshman 15 does in fact exist. It is important that everyone take the necessary steps to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition during their first year in college. While it might be tempting to pile on some fries for dinner every night, youll pay for it in the long run.

Most college kids dont worry about gaining weight their first year, however maintaining proper nutrition is something that everyone would be wise to be on top of. Make sure you use the advice given in the article above so that you can stay healthy and happy throughout your college career.
